Background
Bob Eriksson’s career in landscape architecture parallels American development trends throughout the post-wear era. After earning his degree in 1952 from the University of Southern California—known at the time as a hotbed of mid-century creativity and idealism, Bob had the good fortune to begin his career under the preeminent wings of Garret Eckbo before establishing his own practice. Along the way, he met Owen Peters and the two of them, later joined by Dave Thoms, founded Eriksson Peter and Thomas — the predecessor to EPTDESIGN.
Philosophy
Bob’s works spans an era of extreme optimism — a word that fits Bob to a “t”. His optimism has motivated him to approach each day over the past 70 years expectantly and as a new opportunity to practice his craft, deliver beautifully-detailed designs and documents to his clients, and enjoy the many friendships he’s fostered with the contractors and artisans who brought his designs to life.
From his modest beginnings mowing lawns in his historic Pasadena neighborhood, to the years spent building his firm, Bob has always infused his work with humble leadership and deep curiosity. A true gentleman, he has graciously mentored countless professionals and fostered a culture of warmth and camaraderie at the office and on job sites. Bob remains committed to giving generously to his community through his volunteer work with civic and community arts organizations, Boy Scouts of America and almost four decades of serving on his local Architectural Review Board.
Design
As evidenced through his beautiful portfolio, everyone one and every detail matters to Bob. Whatever the project — a corporate office, regional park, or one of his beloved residential gardens, Bob loves to create spaces that endure the test of time and bring joy to their inhabitants.
